Belgian star Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from football at the age of 32, bringing an end to a trophy-laden career at the top level.
In a statement reflecting on his journey, Hazard said: "You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time. After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer."
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid winger added: "I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world. During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates — thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all."
In his statement, Hazard expressed gratitude to the clubs he represented, saying: "I want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid."
He also reserved appreciation for his fans around the world for their support throughout his journey.
Hazard began his career with French side Lille, where he broke through as a prodigious talent before Chelsea signed him for £32m in 2012.
He spent seven successful seasons at Stamford Bridge, making 352 appearances and scoring 110 goals while winning two Premier League titles, two Europa Leagues, the FA Cup and League Cup.
His performances at Chelsea paved the way for a £130m move to Real Madrid in 2019.
However, injuries and loss of form plagued Hazard's time in the Spanish capital, making him leave the Bernabeu having won two La Liga titles, the Champions League and Copa Del Rey across 76 appearances.
