2021/22 GPL: Champions Kotoko end season with 1-1 draw against Accra Lions

Champions Asante Kotoko have ended the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against debutants Accra Lions FC.

The Porcupine Warriors club last weekend lifted the league title during a coronation ceremony at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium following the team’s 3-0 mauling of relegated Elmina Sharks.

After a week-long celebration, Asante Kotoko returned to action today, this time around in a fixture against Accra Lions.

In a game played at the Accra Sports Stadium, Abass Salifu Samari scored in the 53^rd minute to shoot the hosts into the lead on the back of a stalemate from the first half.

Late in the game, Asante Kotoko mounted pressure on the home team in a bid to get back into the contest.

Eventually, the efforts of the team paid off in the 86^th minute when Samuel Boateng equalised to restore parity for the visitors.

The 1-1 draw goes down well for both teams with Accra Lions successfully escaping relegation.
