Norbert Asem, Samuel Yankson, Emmanuel Amoah all from Ghana Manganese Company Tennis Club, Nsuta, Tarkwa swept the Under 12, 14 and 16 trophies respectively at the just ended Coach Albert Junior Tennis Tournament which took place at Anglogold Iduapriem Mine Tennis Club, Tarkwa.
The one-day event, saw players from GMC Tennis Club, Anglogold Tennis Club and Goldfield’s Tennis Club.
The tournament began with the boys 12 and under as Emmanuel Amoah defeated Salia 6-2 in the first round, Amoah continued with a 7-3 win over David Nyanful in the second round. Amoah maintained his fine form as he ousted Carl Kankam 7-4 in the semifinals before finishing it with an 8-2 win over Shardrack Ahialey of Anglogold Iduapriem Tennis Club.
Samuel Yankson showed his superiority over Anglogold Iduapriem’s Unique Ahialey as he won 6-4 in the 14 and under finals.
The 16 and under was an all GMC affair as Norbert Asem outwitted Benjamin Amoah 8-5.
Speaking at the closing ceremony Coach Albert Asiedu thanked Anglogold Iduapriem Tennis Club for hosting and also for allowing us to share these experiences with the children in Tarkwa, our goal is to raise champions to play at the national level, our focus won’t only be tennis but education as well. Coach Albert doesn’t only focus on winners, everybody will go home with souvenirs’.
Acting General Manager of Anglogold Iduapriem Isaac also said, they were happy coach Albert was back again to put smiles on the faces of our children again, that the relationship between Anglogold Iduapriem Mine Tennis Club and Coach Albert’s outfit will go a long way to help our junior tennis players. Every participant walked away with a tennis bag, tennis shoes, rackets and tennis apparel.
