The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed reports suggesting that it plans to remove Effutu MP Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader in Parliament.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Koduah Frimpong, said the leadership had neither held a meeting nor considered any proposal to change the leadership of its parliamentary caucus.
He made the remarks at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Thursday, October 29, amid rumours of an impending shake-up in the Minority leadership.
Koduah Frimpong said the party was satisfied with the work of Osahen Afenyo-Markin and his team and would continue to support them ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Let me state it categorically: the party has never had any meeting. The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament,” he said.
He urged the public to disregard the reports, describing them as attempts to create confusion and disaffection within the party’s parliamentary caucus.
The NPP General Secretary said the party’s elected officers, led by Chairman John Boadu, were satisfied with the performance of the Minority leadership.
He added that the party remained committed to working with the parliamentary caucus and its flagbearer to secure victory in the 2028 elections.
“We are overwhelmingly satisfied with the work being done by the leadership in Parliament, led by Osaheen Afenyo-Markin, and we shall continue to give them that support that they need to make sure that together with our flag bearer and the party we win the elections in 2028,” he stated.
