The Ghana Football Association [GFA] are on the verge of naming a new assistant coach according to multiple media reports.

According to reports, the incoming assistant coach is a Dutch trainer.

The expatriate coach was recommended by Black Stars head coach, CK Akonnor and the decision was presented to the technical director of the FA, Bernhard Lippert and it has been welcomed.

“The coach brought two names for us to choose one, he asked us to give a strong consideration to the first name, a Dutch, before considering the second option, luckily for us, the first name agreed to our terms, and will be announced soon,” a source said as reported by Footballghana.com.

The Dutch trainer is expected to arrive in Ghana by the close of the week.

As it stands, David Duncan who is the assistant coach will leave his position.

The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko head trainer was named as the assistant coach of the national team after CK Akonnor was named the head coach of the Black Stars in January 2020.

The decision is to strengthen the technical department of the Black Stars as they fight to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] in Cameroon.

CK Akonnor has been tasked to end the country’s 39 years trophy drought.

Meanwhile, CK Akonnor is preparing for Black Stars friendlies against Ivory Coast and Morocco next month.

The games will be staged at the Cape Coast Stadium and at the Rabat Stadium respectfully.

A 30 man squad has been named for the two games.
