French international, N'Golo Kanté was named Man of The Match in Chelsea's UEFA Champions League triumph.

Chelsea recorded a 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola's side at the Estádio do Dragão in Portugal on Saturday night.

While Kai Havertz was the Chelsea hero – it was his first Champions League goal that fired the Blues to the title – Kante was equally as important in dominating the midfield and denying City an impressive treble.

In a game where Pep Guardiola did not pick a defensive midfielder, Kante gave a masterclass in the arts of a box-to-box man as he closed down, won possession and was always available when the Blues had the ball.

Kante was tireless. His highlight moment of many was an incredible, perfectly clean tackle from behind on Kevin De Bruyne as the City player headed towards goal just after half-time.

Following Kante's impressive performance, former Liverpool ace, Jamie Carragher paid tribute to the midfielder.

According to him, the French midfielder will go down as one of the ‘greatest players’ in Premier League history.

"Before the game, we all got together and we all thought Manchester City might get the job done because they have the better team,’ Carragher told CBS Sports.

"But he was the one Chelsea player we said would walk into the City side.

"This is a guy who’s come to the Premier League and in his first season won the title with Leicester. He’s won the title with Chelsea too, and the FA Cup, a World Cup, and now a Champions League.

"When he finishes, I think this guy will be spoken about as one of the greatest players or midfielders we’ve seen.

"We speak about it as the Makelele role, I think we’ll start talking about it as the Kante role when he hangs his boots up. He was outstanding and rightly the man of the match."

Former Manchester City star Micah Richards added: "He was sensational. He was everywhere on the pitch, he covered every blade of grass.

"Look at his desire and work rate. Every counter-attack City had, he just snuffed it out. He does the simple things really well. He was the start of the show time and time again."

He continued, "I can’t put it into words. It’s impossible. I just mentioned then that I’ve played in two finals for Chelsea and we lost them both. The way that hurt…

"It’s all I’ve dreamt of winning a trophy with Chelsea. To go all the way in the Champions League. We played some tough teams.

"We are in a final and we won it. It’s such a special occasion. At this moment in time, we’re the best team in the world. You can’t take that away from us!’

Chelsea have now won the Champions League twice in their history. Chelsea will now play Villarreal in the Super Cup on August 11.
