Charles Akonnor has insisted he has not sidelined Alfred Duncan despite excluding him for his 30 man squad to face Morocco and Ivory Coast in the June international window does not mean he is being overlooked.
The former Inter Milan and Sassuolo midfielder has not been named in Akonnor's squad since his appointment in 2020.
The 27-year-old has been impressive in the Serie A and was linked back to Inter Milan but opted to join Cagliari.
When quizzed on the omission of Duncan, Akonnor said he has not overlooked the midfielder.
“Alfred Duncan is not being overlooked. He was not playing a lot back then, but now he is playing a lot now. We know what he can do, and we are monitoring that," he said.
"He has not been in the country in a while, and we know we can still rely on him. He is not here now, but we know what he can bring, but we also have to give the chance to some local-based players and that is why he was not called.
"We want to play beautiful football, and we will need to give the chance to players who can help us bring that to the table, but it does not mean Alfred Duncan is being overlooked," he added.
Ghana is scheduled to play against Morocco on Tuesday, June 8 in Rabat before taking on the Ivory Coast on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Cape Coast stadium.
