2021 Afcon Qualifiers: Asante Kotoko defender Imoro Ibrahim makes Black Stars debut in Sao Tome win

Asante Kotoko defender, Imoro Ibrahim made his Black Stars debut in the final Group C game against Sao Tome.

Ghana hosted Sao Tome at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions wrapped up the qualification round with a 3-1 home victory over Sao Tome and Principle at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The 21-year-old was introduced as a replacement for Abdul Baba Rahman on the 70th minute of the game.

He was at his usual beat with the twenty minutes of game action.

Imoro has been incredible for Asante Kotoko in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season, making 15 appearances with two goals to his credit.

Chelsea-owned left-back Baba Rahman rounded off the Black Stars’ scoring in the second half after Jordan Ayew and Nicholas Opoku gave the Black Stars a two-goal advantage.

A howler from Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora led to a goal from Fernandes Carvalho. It was the island nation’s third goal of the campaign, having conceded 16 goals.

The win ensures Black Stars finish top of Group C, with Sudan securing the second spot after they beat South Africa 2-0 in Omdurman.

With qualification secured, the focus now is to end the long-wait for the title. The Black Stars last lifted the Afcon trophy in 1982.

Ghana finished the campaign as group winners with 13 points.
