The renovation work at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is on the verge of being completed.

The stadium which was constructed in 1957 and was used for the 2008 African Cup of Nations which was hosted in Ghana has not seen any major facelift until the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP] came to office.

Before the start of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League, the stadium was closed for renovation works to begin in February this year.

The decision by the National Sports Authority [NSA] forced Asante Kotoko to resort to the Accra Sports Stadium as their home grounds.

If not the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the renovation works would have been completed.

Kwadwo Baah-Agyemang, who is the Board Chairman of NSA confirmed that the outbreak of Covid-19 has delayed the work at the stadium.

"We planned on completing the Baba Yara Stadium by October this year, but the effects of COVID 19 was felt slowing down the construction work," he told Kumasi based Nhyira FM.

"There is work going on at the Baba Yara Sports stadium. Pictures circulating on social media even shows the seats have been renovated," he added.

However, as part of the renovation work, new chairs have been fixed at the stadium getting rid of the old seats.

The press, corporate, and VIP facilities have also been upgraded.

Meanwhile, a new scoreboard and floodlights will also be fixed before the stadium is also reopened to host matches.

The pitch drainage system is also being fixed.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium also serves as the home grounds for Kumasi King Faisal.
