Head coach for Division One League side Techiman City Football Club, Stephen Abugri has confessed that the break in the football season has rendered him ‘very broke’.
The National Division One League season commenced in January this year but had to be put on hold in March to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.
Having stayed at home for 3 months with no football action, Coach Stephen Abugri says the financial constraints it is causing him is enormous.
“The effect of the COVID-19 is very negative on everything especially on me. In fact, I am very hot and broke because in Ghana here, "No Coaching No Salary". I know all the other coaches are hot but I am very broke”, the Techiman City FC coach said in an interview with Nkunim FM today.
Though the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in talks with the government to seek permission for football to make a return, they have so far not managed to convince them.
Due to that, the resumption of the 2019/2020 football season remains in limbo with no uncertain date of a possible return.
