Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has expressed concern over the growing trend of filmmakers trying to typecast him based on his recent role.
In a recent interview on the CreativTea podcast, the award-winning actor stated that producers in the industry are trying to box him into the "Odogwu" character he played in Omoni Oboli's film, 'Love In Every Word'.
Arukwe made it clear that he cannot be confined to a single type of role, noting that just as someone took a chance on that specific character, producers can also create new characters for him to interpret.
He emphasized his versatility and his refusal to be limited by a single stereotype.
He wrote:
"All the producers in Nollywood now want to kill me with Odogwu character. You can’t put me in a box."
"The same way someone took a chance on that character, you can also create another character and give to me."
The Nigerian Voice recalls that an X user had previously criticized the typecast character of Uzor Arukwe, sparking a conversation about the repetitive nature of his recent roles.
