The Tolaoluwa Foundation has tendered an apology over a fundraising appeal it shared following the passing of gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings.
In a post shared on Instagram on Friday, the foundation acknowledged that its intention was to support the singer's wife and children, but admitted that posting the appeal so soon after his passing was insensitive.
The foundation noted that it should have considered the timing and impact of its actions more carefully and awaited approval from the necessary parties.
Addressing concerns about the legitimacy of the appeal, the foundation maintained that it has a track record of offering help to those in need as a registered charity with the Corporate Affairs Commission, but took responsibility for how it communicated on the occasion.
It added that it has been in contact with the necessary parties and resolved the issue.
In its caption, the foundation stated that its priority now is to respect the privacy and wishes of Toluwanisings' family and give them space to grieve. It thanked those who raised concerns respectfully and prayed that his memory be honoured with love, dignity, and respect.
Recall that the family of the late singer had debunked the fundraising poster, stating that the information was false and should be disregarded. The family urged the public to report the page massively, noting that if any such initiative were to be organised, it would come from the singer's verified page.
The full statement read:
"We sincerely apologise for the fundraising appeal we shared following the passing of Minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji (Toluwanisings). Our intention was to offer support to his wife and children. However, we recognise that posting an appeal so soon after his passing was insensitive and caused distress at a time when his family, friends and community are grieving. We should have considered the timing and impact of our actions more carefully, and awaited approval from the necessary parties."
"We also understand that the post raised concerns about the legitimacy of the appeal. We have a track record of offering help to those in need as a registered charity with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Nonetheless, we take responsibility for how we communicated on this occasion."
"We have been in contact with the necessary parties and have resolved the issue. Our priority now is to respect the family's privacy and give them space to grieve. Any future support initiative we share will be guided by the family's wishes, with clear communication about how any funds would be managed."
"To his family, loved ones and everyone hurt by the previous post, we are truly sorry. Thank you to those who expressed their concerns and held us accountable in love. May his memory be honoured with love, dignity and respect."
"Please read our full statement above. Our priority now is to respect the privacy and wishes of @toluwanisings family, giving them space to grieve. We have spoken with a representative of the family.
