Popular Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has spoken out against the normalisation of abuse in relationships, stating that enduring mistreatment should never be confused with patience or love.
In a recent post shared on his X handle, he addressed the tendency to equate suffering with devotion, making it clear that tolerance has its limits.
Dakolo noted that it is not anyone's job to fix broken people, adding that destructive tendencies should not be dismissed as mere character flaws.
He also pointed out that even trained therapists sometimes give up, suggesting that there are boundaries everyone must recognise when dealing with abusive behaviour.
He wrote:
"Dear anybody, suffering is not proof of love. The amount of abuse you can take is not what patience is all about. It is not your job to fix broken people. Destructive tendencies are not character flaws. Even a trained therapist gives up sometimes."
