Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has opened up about his long-term battle with diabetes, revealing that he has managed the condition for decades and understands his body better than some medical professionals.
Speaking in a recent interview with actress Biola Bayo, Kosoko disclosed that he became diabetic in 1996 and has since learned to manage his health with a level of awareness that sometimes surpasses that of doctors.
The veteran actor also reflected on the painful losses he has endured, revealing that he lost his wife, Bidemi’s mother, during childbirth, and that he has lost three wives in total.
He also spoke about his enduring career, noting that he started theatre at age 10 in 1964 and formed his own group in 1972, which allows him to confidently describe himself as one of the industry's pioneers.
Jide Kosoko advised parents to treat their children equally so they know they are valued, and weighed in on social media, noting that while the industry initially feared it, many now use it to their advantage.
He said:
"I became diabetic in 1996; I understand my health better than some doctors do."
"I lost my wife during childbirth; that's Bidemi's mother. I have lost three wives."
"I started theatre at age 10, in 1964, and formed my own group in 1972. I can confidently say that I am one of the pioneers of this industry."
"Treat your children equally; let them know they're equal in your mind."
"When social media was coming, we were afraid. But now we use it to our advantage. Some use it uselessly. Must you shake your bumbum and talk about that jargon?"
