"I'm A Jesus Boy, Not A Gospel Artist"  – Spyro

Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has opened up about his faith, his approach to wealth, and the realities of the music industry.

In a recent interview, he addressed his relationship with God, making it clear that while he identifies as a "Jesus boy," his music is not gospel music, explaining that he loves and serves God but does not operate within the gospel genre.

The 'Who is your guy' crooner also shared his views on generational wealth, stating that he does not believe in leaving money behind for his children, noting that he does not know what they would do with it once he is gone.

He also spoke about the spiritual dimension of music, revealing that he has spent over N100 million on some songs and about N50 million on a music video, yet the returns do not always match the investment. He also expressed concern that many artists are not proud to let their children watch their music videos because they are practically pornographic.

The singer credited his success to a moment of surrender, explaining that he tried everything, including his talent, and failed, until he returned to God and asked for help, even if not for himself, then for his mother.

He also acknowledged Wizkid's influence on his music, stating that he learned a lot from him.

He said:
"I'm not part of the school of thoughts of leaving money down for children at the end of the day because after I'm gone, I don't know what you're doing with it. So once you fall off grace and you don't have money, you are finished."

"To everything physical you see, there's a spiritual part to it. There are songs I've spent a hundred million on and when you go check the streams, sometimes you're like what's going on? The most I've spent on a music video I think that should be about fifty million."

"I mean, a lot of us as artists are not even proud to have our children watch our music videos, you know, because it's p%rnography, literally."

"Na me be Jesus boy. My music is not necessarily Jesus music you understand? I'm a Jesus boy because I love God, I serve God but I don't do gospel music."
