He Was One Of The Greatest Actors From The African Continent – Yul Edochie Mourns Olu Jacobs

Controversial Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has paid an emotional tribute to the late veteran actor Olu Jacobs, describing his passing as a loss that hit him deeply.

In a post shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, Edochie expressed his profound respect, love, and admiration for the legendary actor, whom he described as one of the greatest actors from the African continent.

Edochie recounted the privilege of sharing the screen with Olu Jacobs, noting that he learned a great deal from watching him perform. He said he would stay back after his scenes to study Jacobs' acting style, which contributed immensely to his own craft.

He thanked the late actor for the kind words he always offered him on set, describing it as an honour to have known him. He further prayed for God to grant the family and all who loved him the fortitude to bear the loss.

He wrote:
"This one hit hard. A man I have so much respect, love and admiration for. One of the greatest actors from the African continent. A consummate thespian. The Legendary Sir Olu Jacobs. So sad, it all comes to an end some day. Thank you sir for the legacy you left behind. Thank you for the kind words you always gave me whenever I had the privilege to be on set with you. Indeed an honor. I learnt so much watching your movies. I learnt even more filming with you. While on set with you after doing my scenes with you, I would stay back to watch you do your own scenes, study your acting style and I learnt a lot. Thank You for everything Sir. Rest well Sir. The great Uncle Olu Jacobs. May God grant your family and we who loved you, the fortitude to bear the loss."

The Nigerian Voice recalls that the legendary actor, widely regarded as one of the godfathers of Nollywood, died at the age of 84. His son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced the news on Instagram on Wednesday, stating that the family announced his passing with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought.

The statement described him as a dear husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, referring to him as "The Lion of Lufodo." It confirmed that he lived from July 11, 1942, to September 16, 2026, and urged bloggers and social media influencers to respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.
