Female Artists Are Judged By What They Wear, Not Their Talent – Fave

Nigerian singer Chidozie Godsfavour, popularly known as Fave, has spoken out about the challenges female artists face in the Nigerian music industry, stating that it is harder for them to succeed compared to their male counterparts.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, she explained that female artists are often measured by their appearance rather than their talent.

Fave noted that the industry places more emphasis on how a woman dresses and looks, with people's sexual desires and fantasies sometimes overshadowing the music itself.

According to her, female singers are assessed by how decently dressed they are, however, men are not held to the same standard. She also maintained that despite the disadvantages, female artists perform better than their male counterparts.

She said:
"It is harder for female artists to blow. Female artists aren't measured by talent but by what they wear. If your tummy isn't flat… It is never really about the music; it is more about people's sexual desires or their fantasies about you."

"And I think that right there is a problem, because it becomes more about how decently you are dressed before people listen to you. But when it comes to men, they aren't held to that same standard."
