Why I Chose Simi – Adekunle Gold Speaks On Genotype Compatibility

Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has disclosed that genotype compatibility was a deciding factor in his marriage to fellow artiste Simi.

The sickle cell survivor, made the disclosure in a recent episode of the One54 Podcast, where he admitted that he would have called it quits on his relationship with Simi if she had the SS genotype.

Adekunle Gold stated that he prioritised finding out Simi's genotype when they first met, and discovering she was AA gave him the green light to move forward.

He emphasised that affection alone would not have been sufficient, as he was not willing to risk bringing a child into the world who would suffer from sickle cell disease.

He said:
"I wouldn't have married my wife if she were SS. Forget love. I don't think it makes sense to bring a child into this world and they would be sickly."

"When me and my wife first met, the first thing I did was to know her genotype. She is AA. That was why I proceeded with the relationship."

Adekunle Gold tied the knot with his longtime lover and singer Simi in 2019, and their union is blessed with two kids.
