You Can't Be Calling Me By My First Name – Mo Abudu Insists On Formal Address

Media mogul and CEO of EbonyLife Group, Mo Abudu, has disclosed her view on the topic of formal address, maintaining that she does not subscribe to informal way of being addressed due to her traditional background.

Speaking in a conversation with Toke Makinwa on Toke Moments, she shared that she was raised by her grandmother in Ondo and holds firm views on how younger people should address her.

Abudu made it clear that she does not tolerate being called by her first name casually, especially by those younger than her. She also addressed the perception of her personality, noting that her assertiveness would likely be viewed differently if she were a man.

Sharing her views on relationships, the media mogul stated that heartbreak is no longer a concern for her, and she prefers to date someone her age or older, adding that mutual respect requires a partner to have achieved something in life.

She said:
"I am very traditional. I was brought up in Ondo by my grandmother. You can't be calling me by my first name anyhow. I won't take it!"

"If I was a man, they wouldn't say I was a shark. They're going to say she's an astute businesswoman."

The discussion echoes a recent debate on workplace culture and respect. The Nigerian Voice recalls that businessman Tony Elumelu recently sparked reactions after correcting a young lady who addressed him by his first name at a public event, insisting she refer to him as "Chairman" or "Mr Elumelu."
