NPP demands answers over disappearance of Dambai resident

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the government and security agencies to step up investigations into the alleged abduction and disappearance of a Dambai resident in the Oti Region, Fuseini Mohammed.

The party said nearly 10 months after Mr Mohammed reportedly went missing, his whereabouts remained unknown and no individual had been held accountable for the incident.

The NPP made the call during a media engagement in Dambai on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, led by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

According to the party, Mr Mohammed was allegedly abducted at about 9:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025, while returning home on a motorbike with his pregnant wife after closing from their shop.

It said the alleged incident occurred about 50 metres from the residence of the Oti Regional Minister.

“Today, almost 10 months after his disappearance, the fundamental questions remain unanswered: Where is Fuseini Mohammed? Who took him? Why has no person been brought to justice in connection with his disappearance?” Mr Kodua asked.

He said the circumstances surrounding the disappearance raised concerns about how the alleged perpetrators could have left the area without being detected.

Mr Kodua noted that the ferry serving the area was not operational at the time, limiting movement into and out of Dambai.

He further explained that the alternative route towards Nkwanta Junction was about eight kilometres long and had three security checkpoints operating at night.

“If these accounts are accurate, legitimate questions arise as to how the perpetrators could have allegedly abducted a citizen, transported him through or out of the area, and apparently escaped detection,” he said.

NPP seeks details of investigation
The NPP is demanding that the government, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and relevant national security and law enforcement agencies provide an update on investigations into the case.

Mr Kodua wants the authorities to disclose the investigative measures undertaken since October 21, 2025, as well as explain how information, leads and accounts provided by residents and potential witnesses have been handled.

He also questioned whether CCTV footage from the vicinity and relevant routes had been retrieved, preserved and subjected to forensic analysis.

“We understand that there was no power outage in the area at the material time. If surveillance cameras were operational, the public deserves to know whether available footage was retrieved and analysed to identify the vehicle allegedly involved or reconstruct its movements,” he said.

The NPP General Secretary further called on the security agencies to clarify whether records from checkpoints along the relevant route had been examined and whether officers on duty at the time had been interviewed.

He also questioned the role of REGSEC in coordinating the investigation and urged the authorities to demonstrate that every available investigative avenue had been explored.

‘Security must be equal for all’

The NPP insisted that the case should not be reduced to a partisan political matter, stressing that every citizen was entitled to equal protection under the law.

“Every Ghanaian life has equal value. The ordinary trader, farmer, teacher, student, commercial driver and citizen walking the streets of Dambai is entitled to the same protection of the State as the highest public official,” the party said.

It also questioned whether the case would have remained unresolved for almost 10 months if the missing person had been a senior government official or another politically exposed individual.

“Security cannot become a privilege reserved for those who occupy positions of political authority,” the party added.

The NPP has subsequently appealed to civil society organisations, traditional authorities, religious leaders, human rights groups, the media and other stakeholders to join the call for a thorough, professional and transparent investigation.

The party said the prolonged uncertainty had caused considerable anguish for Mr Mohammed's family while also raising concerns among residents about their safety and confidence in the security system in the Oti Region.

“Find Fuseini Mohammed. Establish the truth surrounding his disappearance. Identify and prosecute anyone found responsible in accordance with the law. And provide his family and the people of Dambai with the answers they have waited almost ten months to receive,” the NPP said.

The party said it would continue to demand answers until the circumstances surrounding Mr Mohammed's disappearance were fully established.
