Ghanaians Don't Appreciate Their Stars – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has criticized his home country's lack of appreciation for entertainers.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he contrasted the treatment of Ghanaian artistes with that of their Nigerian counterparts.

Shatta Wale claimed that despite his fame, he once slept on the streets and had to rely on his girlfriend for accommodation. He also noted that many Ghanaian artistes take taxis to shows and earn very little, while Nigerian artists enjoy bigger earnings and recognition.

He said:

"Nigerians appreciate success, Ghana doesn't appreciate success. As a star, I was sleeping on the street as big as I am. At one point, my girlfriend who was living with her parents' was the one accommodating me.

"Even as a big Ghanaian artist, back then, I take taxis to shows. Not just me, a lot of Ghanaian artists do that. Ghanaian artists earn pennies, while their Nigerian counterparts earn big."
