Mahama welcomes Gabon's President for three-day bilateral talks on trade, security cooperation

President John Dramani Mahama has welcomed Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to Ghana for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors.

President Nguema arrived in Accra on Tuesday, July 28, at the invitation of President Mahama and is leading a high-level delegation comprising government ministers, senior officials and members of Gabon's business community.

The visit is expected to run until Thursday, July 30.

Before official engagements at the Jubilee House, the Gabonese leader visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to pay tribute to Ghana's founding President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in what President Mahama described as a reflection of the shared vision of African unity between the two countries.

In a social media post on Tuesday, President Mahama said the two leaders would hold bilateral talks focused on deepening cooperation in trade, security and regional integration.

"Right from the airport, President Nguema went to pay tribute to our founding father, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, a powerful reminder of the shared vision of African unity that continues to guide our nations,"

"Soon, we will be holding bilateral talks to strengthen trade, security cooperation, and our shared commitment to a stronger, more united Africa. I am grateful for this visit and the opportunity to deepen the bonds between our two countries," the post read in part.

The state visit is expected to culminate in renewed commitments by Ghana and Gabon to strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote sustainable economic development for the mutual benefit of the peoples of both countries.
