Sogakope: DISEC To Meet Over Murder Of Assemblyman
02.03.2020 LISTEN

The South Tongu District Security Council (DISEC) is said to hold a crunch meeting following the gruesome murder of Marcus Mawutor Adzahli, assembly member for the Sogakope South electoral area in the Volta Region.

The District Chief Executive Officer (DCE) for the South Tongu local assembly, Emmanuel Luis Agama, assured that the meeting will help find ways to bring security issues in the area under control.

Marcus, who doubled as a mobile money vendor, was found dead after sporadic gunshots were heard at his residence on Sunday, March 1, 2020 forcing residents to block roads to protest violent crimes.

The blockade caused gridlock in the area, leaving many travellers stranded.

“When issues of this nature happen, we hold a DISEC meeting to have briefings from the security chiefs. We need more police officers in the district. I will meet them so that we take up any grievances they have,” he told Citi News. Gruesome murder

Marcus reportedly struggled with eight robbers who were armed with guns and clubs.

He was subsequently stabbed and shot multiple times, according to reports.

No arrest has so far been made.

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased, also known as Mac-Greenline, has been deposited at the South Tongu district hospital morgue in Sogakope, pending an autopsy.

The assailants, numbering about eight, reportedly stormed the victim's house wielding guns and cement blocks whilst firing gunshots.

A resident of the area, Maxwell Lukutor, said this was the latest in series of violent crimes reported in the area.

“The issue is that our security is compromised. We have had several attacks from armed robbers and we see a lot of inaction from the police,” he said.

Police give assurances

The Sogakope district police commander, DSP Michael Zah, said his outfit was on top of issues in the area.

“Security is not as porous as they [the protesters] are saying. It is a challenging issue which we need to sit with the youth and sort out.”

Calm returns to Sogakope after protest
