The Ghanaian Centre of PEN International which promotes literature and defends freedom of expression, strongly condemns the killers of Ahmed Hussein-Suele, an undercover investigative journalist.
Ahmed was teammate of award winning journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye Investigative Organization which last year, exposed the rot and corruption in Ghana’s football administration.
PEN calls on President Nana Akufo Addo, the Inspector-General of Police and the national security apparatus, to quickly investigate Ahmed’s death and bring the perpetrators to book.
PEN is worried about the murder of Ahmed and attacks of journalists, and cautions that Ghana’s freedom of expression credentials would be tarnished, if the state fails to protect journalists and other media practitioners.
