A Security analyst with the Africa Center for Security and Counter Terrorism, Emmanuel Kutin is fearful the country is heading towards religious war if irresponsible and reckless prophets are not checked and clamped down.
“If we don’t take time then we are heading towards a religious war in this country and some of these irresponsible prophets will trigger the bull. This country we must sit up”.
His fear comes on the back of recent attack on one of the church branches of Rev. Owusu Bempah who recently predicted the deaths of some prominent people in the country.
Rev Owusu Bempah predicted on New Year's Eve that some Ghanaian leaders including the Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Shaributu will die this year. Some youth on Wednesday afternoon attacked the Odorkor branch of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, where Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah was the head pastor.
The unhappy youth who have issued a warning to Rev Owusu Bempah to apologise and retract his pronouncements have warned that they will attack the church again until they hear of the apology.
Speaking on the back of the recent development, the security analyst insisted the issue is becoming too many and it is about time we tested our laws to see if we can criminalize such death prophecies in the country.
“This incidences are becoming one too many and will glorify a lot of men of God as if they are God’s by themselves. I listened to a lawyer who says Prophesying about somebody’s death and publicizing it is a criminal offense. If that is true can we test our laws and see if same is applicable”, Security Analyst Emmanuel Kutin said whiles speaking to Class FM.
He continued “We need to also look at the issue of clamping down on irresponsible prophets because in this country anybody can just wake up and set up a church and more often than not a lot don’t come to pass. If you are giving prophecies there must be set date and time. You don’t leave it vague and open”.
He also believes that the Police will continue to be handicapped in the fight against checking such prophecies from prophets until a law is passed by parliament to regulate the activities of churches and any other religious body in the countries.
