Agona West MCE Stops MP from Renovating Swedru Town Hall

The Municipal Chief Executive of Agona West (Mrs. Justina Assan) has stopped the Member of Parliament for the area Hon. Mrs. Cynthia Morrison (who is also the Minister for Gender) from renovating the deplorable Swedru Town Hall for a reason best known to her.

According to information available, the then parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and now Member of Parliament for Agona West promised the people of Agona Swedru that she would uplift the status of the Swedru Town Hall and make it one of the most beautiful edifices in the Central Region. Upon winning the elections, she contracted engineers and architects both from the Municipal Assembly and elsewhere to start work on the Agona Swedru Town Hall Renovation Project. She officially informed the Assembly at their 2nd General Assembly Meeting in 2017 in the same Hall of her plans to renovate the place. Not long after, the MCE stopped the Assembly Engineers from contributing to the renovation effort.

Upon several back and forth efforts from the MP, she wrote another letter officially to the MCE and informed the Assembly and copied the Assemblyman of the Area of her decision to renovate the Swedru Town Hall as promised. The MP again wrote to the Ministry for Special Initiatives and copied the Municipal Assembly.

With funding and renovation materials almost complete, the MCE again (on 30th November 2018 through the Municipal Coordinating Director) stopped the MP from renovating the said Town Hall to the surprise of many who have heard the news.

In the meantime, architectural designs have been completed and paid for by the MP.

The question on the lips of many is, “why is the MCE frustrating the development efforts of the MP?”
