"Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday accepted the resignation of Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, who said she stepped down over allegations of using a forged certificate to avoid participation in the country’s mandatory one-year national youth service scheme. Adeosun, a top cabinet member and a former investment banker who promoted the government’s policy to boost growth following a recent recession, said in a statement that she believed she was exempt from the service scheme but felt bound to resign because of the administration’s “focus on integrity.” “I have, today, become privy to the findings of the investigation into the allegation made in an online medium that the Certificate of Exemption from National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) that I had presented was not genuine,” she said in her statement. “This has come as a shock to me and I believe that in line with this administration’s focus on integrity, I must do the honourable thing and resign.”

Kofi Asante (Nana Asante Bediatuo) should take a cue from this and resign from his position as Secretary to the President of Ghana.

He forged a certificate which said he had a first degree (LLB Hons.) from the University of Ghana, Legon and used this fake certificate to enter the University of New York (NYU) in the United States for his J.D. (Juris Doctor) between 1990-1992 or thereabouts.

Although he successfully completed the J.D. and was subsequently called to the New York Bar and even worked as an attorney with Paul Weiss, a very respectable Law Firm in New York and thereafter returned to Ghana and entered the Ghana Law School and was called to the Ghana Bar as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, the very fact that he forged a first degree from an institution that he never attended even for one lecture, seriously calls his integrity into question and confirms the suspicion that his entire legal career in the U.S. and in Ghana is founded on a criminal act for which he should face the full rigours of the law both in the U.S. and in in his home country of Ghana.

Such a person can certainly compromise the President and the entire nation of Ghana if he is allowed to keep his job as the Secretary to the President.

Who knows what else he is capable of forging in such a powerful and sensitive position.

The evidence of his forgery is going to be put before courts both in New York and Accra very soon. Meanwhile, he continues to walk the corridors of power in Ghana and struts around the social and political scene of Ghana, throwing his weight around on a daily basis.

Such a crime cannot be wished away and should certainly not go unpunished!!!!!

Bediatuo must go!!!!
