Ecobank Ghana as a way of improving financial inclusion has introduced the Xpress Point - Agency Banking, an easy banking service that allows customers to access some banking services at selected Shell filling stations across the country.
Executive Director of Ecobank Ghana, Morgan Fianku Asiedu speaking at the launch of the service explained that the drive in deepening financial inclusion in Ghana is one that falls in line with Ecobank Ghana’s vision to increase its customer base to 11 million by the year 2020.
"In Ghana, Ecobank’s digital drive favourably supports government’s desire for every Ghanaian to have a bank account. We see this as a meaningful contribution towards reducing the over 70% of Ghanaians who currently have no bank accounts,’’ he said.
Under the signed agreement with Vivo energy, Shell Ghana will distribute selected products and services of Ecobank Ghana throughout its stations across the country.
Mr Fianku Asiedu called for more partnerships such as this, to help improve financial inclusion across the African continent as the drive to decrease the non-banking population is not the sole responsibility of governments.
‘‘The call to action to let all of us join hands and to deepen the financial inclusion agenda across Ghana and Africa.”
He said, “On our part, we shall continue to do this in pursuit of the Ecobank vision of building a Pan African Banking Institution that contributes to the Economic Development and Financial Integration of Africa.’’
On his part Managing Dir of Vivo Energy, Ebenezer Fulkner lauded Ecobank Ghana for efforts to bring banking services closer to customers.
He said that this agreement will reinforce Vivo Energy and Ecobank Ghana’s leadership position in the banking Industry.
‘‘We are pleased to enter into partnership agreement with Ecobank Ghana, a leading bank in the provision of financial services in Ghana, to offer Ecobank Agency banking services, in line with our objective to continually meet the dynamic needs of our customers’’
