It Is Our Mutual Responsibility To Bring About Change!!!

Without gross exaggeration I think the police officer who manhandled the nursing mother has brought a lot of shame to the Service, his family and friends and himself.

But I am particularly shocked by the hypocrisy of some Ghanaians.

People who hire Police officers to abuse civilians are today condemning the Police.

I think the police officers who have allowed themselves to be used to abuse civilians have learnt some lessons.

In asmuch as I condemn that police officer who meted out that beatings to the lady at the Bank: I am of the view that duty bearers should take advantage of this issues to;

1. Look at recruitment processes to the various security institutions.

2. Look at the issue of obsolete "obey before complain" mantra. (Snr officers usually take advantage of this mantra to make junior officers misconduct themselves )

3. Look at Police orientation before enlistment, during training and after training.

4. Police community relations should be enhanced as well as the sociology of policing should be looked at .

With regard to the financial institutions too;
1. BoG should as a matter of urgency cause the closure of financial institutions that are not properly registered with the regulator.

The issue that led to the woman being abused is pervasive across the length and breath of the country. Not too long ago a close relation went to GESRO in Takoradi for close to one week and couldn't withdraw GHc200.00 from her own savings.

There are instances of such cases everywhere in Ghana.

2. Sometimes it is very disheartening to see pregnant women, nursing mothers, the aged as well as other vulnerable groups queue at banking halls. This is very alien to our values and norms as a state.

In drawing the curtains, I wish to admonish Ghanaians to stop the unnecessary politicisation of serious issues and come together to collectively demand our dutybearears to up their game and provide better leadership .

Indeed the change we seek start with you.
