Accra, Feb. 28, GNA - The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) said on Monday that it has initiated a number of development projects in its short and medium-term plan to meet increasing load growth.

A statement issued in Accra on Monday said a second Bulk Supply Point is being constructed at Mallam in Accra in collaboration with the Volta River Authority to complement supplies from ECG's main Achimota sub-station.

The company has also established new primary sub-stations at Kwashieman, Dansoman and Baatsona to improve supply efficiency while two new ones at Ridge and the Central Business District of Accra are on-going.

"In addition to these, several obsolete equipment in the various sub-stations have been changed, while alternative supply feeders have been constructed to ensure stability of supply not only in Accra/Tema but also in the regions."

The statement said meter reading has been contracted to third parties to ensure regular reading and bill distribution. The company has also established Loss Control Units in all regions and districts to wage "an all-purposeful 'war'" on illegalities.

Members are dedicated trained staff with logistics to move from one place to another to check on illegal connections, meter by-pass and tampering with meters.

The statement called on the public to co-operate with the company by paying their bills in time to help it provide excellent service.
