The decision to promote someone to the next level especially in political school is influenced by a number of factors. These factors are: evidence based track record, experience, loyalty and grassroot mobilization among others.

Evidence based track record: ALHAJI SHORT has exhibited dynamic team leadership over the years by leading the building of a regional party office even in opposition, by smashing the NDC’s second stronghold (Upper West Region) by winning five parliamentary seats, as well as increasing the presidential vote in the Upper West region. Who among the known contestants has exhibited this track record?

Experience: ALHAJI SHORT has been polling station agent, constituency chairman, regional chairman for 12 years, chairman of regional chairmen, member of both the National Council (NC) & National Executive Committee (NEC); and disciplinary committee. All of this means he has gone through the structures of the party and has acquired the requisite experience and knowledge in the party. Who among the candidates has this impeccable party experience?

Loyalty: Throughout his many years of party work, Alhaji Short has been loyal to the party both in opposition and in government. He has supported every party leader. He has been loyal to the current president since 2008 till date. He worked tirelessly to get H. E. Nana Akufo-Addo elected as president by committing resources both financial and non financial towards the NPP victory.

He has been a good friend of the president for many years; in reciprocation the president has publicly acknowledged his loyalty. There can be no better indication that Alhaji Short is bent on ensuring that the party wins the 2020 elections and the elections beyond; that he has no other interest than to make the NPP more attractive by bridging the link between ordinary patriots and government so as to serve the party and the nation better. This calls for his promotion to be the next national chairman of the NPP. Who among the contestants has exhibited this loyalty?

Grassroot mobilization: A party without strong polling station and constituency mobilization is a dead party. Strong grassroot mobilization requires grassroot experience, understanding the behavior of ordinary and rural Ghanaians and the presence of field leadership.

The provision of these requirements is what led to the fall of the second stronghold of NDC. Alhaji Short was in the villages, households and the streets of the Upper West Region campaigning for the parliamentary candidates and the presidential candidate, even as he was concurrently committing both financial and non financial resources to the cause.

This makes Alhaji Short best-suited to be national chairman, as politics in Ghana is more grassroot based compared to office based. Who among the candidates possesses this ‘people magic’ - the grassroots appeal, the common touch - in as much abundance as ALHAJI SHORT does? Who else?

From all the known contestants for the national chairman position, only Alhaji Abubakar Abdul-Rahman (ALHAJI SHORT) possesses the four key promotion factors. Hence, it is ALHAJI SHORT who deserves promotion to be the next national chairman of NPP - to address the teething concerns of ordinary patriots, party business persons while bridging the gap between party and government at all levels.
