The Burnt Boy's Dormitory At Konongo Odumase

ABOUT 135 STUDENTS of Konongo Odumase Senior High School (SHS) were temporarily displaced after an inferno gutted some parts of the boy's dormitory on Saturday evening.

Luckily, no injuries were recorded because when the fire started the students were at prep learning, Headmaster of the school, Mr. Benjamin Kwaku Baah, told DAILY GUIDE in an interview.

He said the cause of the fire, which started around 7:40 pm and destroyed items such as beds, mattresses, clothes, books, footwears and other personal belongings of the students, is still unknown.

According to him, the fire just started in the storey building so the authorities made sure that no student went near the danger zone, adding that fire fighters were called to douse the blaze.

Mr. Kwaku Baah said three out of the 12 rooms in the storey building, which housed the 135 students, got burnt after the fire was brought under control, adding that luckily nobody sustained injury.

He noted that the affected students were temporarily moved to the assembly hall and an adjoining block to stay in; adding that experts have sanctioned that the remaining rooms in the storey building is habitable.

The Konongo Odumase Headmaster described the fire outbreak as very unfortunate, but he was quick to assure that classes and other activities are still ongoing without any hitch, saying “there is no cause for alarm”.

Mr. Kwaku Baah said the MP for the area, the Konongo MCE and other influential people have donated exercise books, mattresses, boxer shorts, singlets and other items to the affected students.
