Lack of adequate accommodation at the St. Louis Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi has compelled management of the school to cut down admissions, the Headmistress of the school, Ms Addae, has announced.
According to her, inadequate infrastructure had compelled them to cut down the number of students to be admitted, adding that their “admission quota is going down.”
She was speaking at the launch of 65th year anniversary of the school, which was climaxed with a ground breaking event for the construction of $700,000 dormitory block by the 1992 year group and other old students.
The headmistress said the school had officially informed the Ghana Educational Service (GES) that it would admit 650 students this year, instead of 750.
The Headmistress has, however, appealed for the construction of a new dining hall to be able to contain the current student population.
Mr. Anthony Osei Poku, the Board Chairman of the school, expressed gratitude to the old students and appealed to parents that they also have a role to play in the development of the school.
Mrs. Mary Owusu Acheaw, the Ashanti regional Education Director, hailed St Louis for training many dedicated Ghanaian women, in line with Christian principles, thereby taking up responsible leadership roles in the Ghanaian society.
She added: “Students and products of the school are imbued with requisite knowledge and moral skills that make them capable of addressing some modern challenge of our time.
The Ashanti regional education director reminded the school that, the sustainability of discipline and progress requires greater involvement of all major stakeholders, including government, parents, teachers and the students.
The Education Director saluted the management of the school for the sacrifices and said “65 years in the life of an institution, which involves a lot of hard work, is quite an enviable achievement.
