UNICEF introduces 'Let's Be Fair, Ghana' campaign

Accra, May 15, GNA - Talented artists Kwame Tsikata (a.k.a M.anifest) and Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda (a.k.a MzVee) last week joined five other prominent Ghanaian personalities who are partnering with UNICEF to promote the wellbeing and development of every child in Ghana.

A statement issued by UNICEF Ghana and copied to the Ghana News Agency said M.anifest and MzVee had both taken proactive steps, in their own way and style to advocate for Ghana's most vulnerable, sparked conversations and drive change through their platforms.

It said at a meeting in Accra, the two musical talents joined blogger Ameyaw Debrah, journalist Francisca Kakra Forson and sports journalist Gary al-Smith to learn about UNICEF's call for greater equity for children in Ghana.

It noted that singers Noella Wiyaala and Rebecca Acheampong (a.k.a Becca) were also working to impact the lives of children.

'I'm happy to be working with UNICEF to make a change that matters. Advocating for children is not just important, it's crucial because children are our foundation,' M.anifest remarks at the start of the meeting.

The statement said at the meeting, UNICEF introduced its new campaign 'Let's Be Fair, Ghana' - which highlights how millions of children in Ghana were not yet fulfilling their full potential because of inequity for millions of children in Ghana.

The theme for this year's campaign 'Let's Be Fair Ghana' aims to highlight the growing lack of basic opportunities for over 3,600,000 million children across the country.

The statement said currently, one child in every four lives in poverty, 3,600 children die every year from diarrhoea related diseases and one child in every three in Ghana had a disability and was not in school because of it.

'When we collaborate, we do better and go much further and we are excited to have even more like-minded partners with the dream of ensuring that Ghana's future is secured.

'Let's be fair to our children and adolescents, since they both have very specific needs,' Rushnan Murtaza, UNICEF Ghana Deputy Representative remarked during the meeting.

Blogger Ameyaw Debrah expressed his passion for engaging with UNICEF, 'I think it was about time that I started contributing my bit to ensure that young people are positively affected and are supported to grow into respectable adults'.

All of the prominent influencers at the event were encouraged to consider how they could play their role in providing a fairer society for every child in Ghana.

'I'm very big when it comes to supporting and inspiring girls. This is number one for me!' MzVee shared her sentiments on the initiative.

UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of children in about 190 countries and territories to translate commitment into practical action on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children.
