Despite the hurdles and difficulties that young people are facing due to poor leadership and governance from various African governments, we must not give up, we must continue to strive hard believing in ourselves and believing in Africa.
In this episode I will highlight how you can set proper goals; this is from my experience but thanks to a lot of books I read on goal setting but experiential knowledge is key. Setting proper goals is very vital to achieving long term vision for African young people. Any young African who desires to cause change and succeed must know how to set proper goals.
Do you know what you want to achieve by the end of today, this week, this month, this year or the next 10 years? If you want to succeed in this life you must set goals, without goals you lack focus/direction and people without focus are insane. When you set goals you are able to take control of your life and you don’t end anyhow, you end according to your heart desire.
To succeed in reaching your goals you must know how to set them. The first way to set proper goals is:
1. Know your life goals
Every young person should ask important questions about what he or she want in life.
2. Set goals that motivate you.
It is important that when setting goals, set goals that motivate you that is make sure that the goals you set are important to you and that relate to the high priorities in your life.
3. Develop an action plan
Hope is hopeless without action. Goals are goalless without action. Develop a workable action plan to achieving your goals.
4. Have Accountability
If a goal is set and only one person knows it, does it really have any power? The answer is no. A goal is not powerful if you don’t have one or more people who can hold you accountable to it. My counsel is make sure you have a mentor
5. Set SMART Goals
I will intentionally not over burden this point. S.M.A.R.T. means set Specific goals, Measurable goals, Attainable goals, Realistic goals and Time-sensitive goals.
“Concentrate your energy on the right priorities (goals), not everything is worth paying attention to.
