Cape Coast (C/R), July 28, GNA - The death is reported of Mrs. Kate Victoria Teiba Abbam, publisher and editor of 'Obaa Sima' (Ideal Woman).
The deceased, 80, was also the Founder and Executive Director of the International Association for the Advancement of Women in Africa (ASAWA).
She died peacefully in her sleep in Accra.
A family spokesperson, who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said she would be buried on Friday, July 29, in Cape Coast.
The late Mrs. Abbam was a writer, publisher, journalist and consultant on women and development.
She wrote and published three short stories — Sweet Deceit, Beloved Twin (Romance from the North) and I Shall Return (Romance from The Woods).
She served on the board of various institutions including Ghana Tourist Development Company Limited, Graphic Corporation (now Graphic Communications Group), Fan Milk Limited, Accra Regional Advisory Committee of Ghana Library Board.
Born in Cape Coast in the mid-thirties she had her basic education at the Saint Monica's Convent, Cape Coast, Mmofraturo in Kumasi and then A. M. E. Zion School, Cape Coast.
She attended Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast and then proceeded to the Queen Elizabeth's College University of London and University of Ghana, Legon, where she studied Food Science and General Science respectively.
From 1964 to 1969, she worked at the Food Research Institute where she helped to analyze food and food products
In 1993, she was enstooled queen of the Anona Clan in Ekumfi Eyisam in the Central Region under the stool name Nana Assanwa Ewudziwa Gyampaafor II.
For the greater part of her life, she worked for the empowerment and economic emancipation of women.
