Ada West District Chief Executive, Mr. Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills-Nkrumah, has called on the contractor for the new 24-hour market to employ residents and use the Assembly’s DRIP machines to speed up construction.

The call came as the Ada West District Assembly officially handed over the project site to Architect Lancelot W-Hanson and contractor Lordia Constructs on Wednesday.

Mr. Mills-Nkrumah appealed to the contractor to consider hiring local people as labour and to patronize the Assembly’s District Road Improvement Programme machines at a cheaper rate.

Architect W-Hanson urged the contractor to deliver the project within the scheduled 30 months, which she pledged to deliver and ensure value for money.

The contractor cautioned the residents who will be employed to give their best to speed up work on the construction of the markets.

The market is part of the government’s 24-hour economy policy, which requires every district to commit 25% of its quarterly District Assembly Common Fund to build a round-the-clock trading hub.

The market model will operate in three 8-hour shifts to maximize business hours, decongest daytime trading, increase productivity, and create mass employment.

On the same day, the DCE led management to inspect three projects at Ada Senior High Technical School, which included two 10-seater toilet facilities for boys and girls and a GETFUND 24-unit classroom block.
