Akim Swedru (E/R), Dec 25, GNA - The Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle the Archbishop of Catholic Arch Diocese, Accra, has advised Christians to regularly make personal assessment in their lives to ensure high moral standards.
This, he said, could bring out the fruits of the spirit of harmony in them.
Archbishop Palmer-Buckle gave the advice in a message during the 100 years anniversary celebration of the Akim Swedru Saint Andrew Catholic Church on the theme: 'Bearing Fruits @100.'
Rev Father Christopher Dei, the Parish Priest at the Akim Swedru Catholic Church in a brief history of the church told the Ghana News Agency that it was established in 1915 with 17 members, but now has 1,200 members.
He said through the hard work and efforts of the members they branches have been opened at Akim Awisa, Apoli, Akotekrom, Aduasa, Adiembra and Achiase.
Rev Fr Dei said the church had also established schools and health centres.
At the celebration 90 members were awarded with certificates of honour, and citations of appreciation.
The highest award went to Most Rev Joseph Afrifa-Agyekum, Bishop of the Koforidua Catholic Diocese and a native of Akim Swedru.
As part of the occasion, a centenary hall which serves as a recreational centre for the people of the area was inaugurated and blessed by Most Rev Mathias Kobena Nketsia, the Archbishop of Catholic Arch Diocese Cape Coast.
The hall was named after the late President of the Church, Mr Kobby Yebo Okrah.
The Saint Andrew Statue was also unveiled by the Queen Mother of Akim Bosome Traditional Area, Nana Kwartemaa Minkyim.
Rev Father Foster Kwaku Asiamah, the Assistant Parish Priest for the Akim Swedru Catholic Church, expressed gratitude to public for their contributions to the successful end of the centenary celebration.
