Highlife musician Nat Brew fondly called Amandzeba has put up a spirited fight in the face of theft allegations levelled against him and veteran actor David Dontoh on Hitz FM’s Showbiz Filla.

According to Amandzeba, prior to the 2010 World Cup staged in South Africa, Kwame Wadada of Africa Awake emerged with a brilliant idea of sending Ghanaian musicians and other entertainment stakeholders to perform in South Africa adding an understanding was reached among the event organizer in South Africa, the South African musicians Union and Mr. Wadada’s outfit.

Amandzeba explained himself, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Bessa Simons, A.B Crentsil were the chosen artistes to perform adding that Wadada then realized he couldn’t use his persona or organization alone to raise the needed sponsorship so he fell on MUSIGA and the presidency to raise funds for the trip and event.

“Wadada eventually went to the castle as this was during late president Mill’s era to seek 400,000 dollars but was told because of competing requests and limited funds no help could be given but was given a promise that should some money be freed up contact would be made.” the Afrocentric musician stated.

According to the ‘Wogbejeke’ hitmaker, 2 weeks to the start of the tournament, the then chief of staff called that a philanthropist had offered 100,000 dollars but since the funds was a reduction of what was requested there was need to scale down the 40 man contingent with a caution not to publicize the offer to court disaffection from Ghanaians who would assume musicians and footballers were just having a jolly time.

He said while planning, an advance party was asked to head to South Africa to check if lodging, feeding, event grounds, transportation and other logistics were in place adding that out of the 35 people on board if each person’s ticket cost was 2,000 dollars the total amounts to 70,000 dollars leaving 30,000 dollars out of which 15,000 dollars was issued to the event organizers in South Africa leaving a balance of 15,000 dollars.

The ‘Dede’ singer stated that although the lodging facility they got was completed, furnishing had not been done meaning some funds had to be exhausted to that effect mentioning that in all these happenings it was Kwame Wadada, Rex Omar and the South African organizer who were the principal actors.

He stressed claims that Dontoh and himself had withdrawn some 93,000 dollars from the accounts of Mr. Kwame Wadada of Africa Awake without the his consent were absurd stressing that Wadada only begun to set into motion his grand scheme to tarnish the hard won reputation of himself and Mr. Dontoh in 2014 wondering why he would wait for 4 good years to take action if they were making illegal withdrawals as he claims.

The dreadlock elder alleged that Wadada has an ulterior motive since he had earlier asserted that the Chief of Staff then had hoarded some of the cash since he believes 150,000 dollars was released for their usage.

A defiant Amandzeba Nat Brew promised to “to take on Kwame Wadada when the facts are established” adding such a whimsical theft charge has the potential to cause disaffection for himself and Mr. Dontoh stressing for ‘Ghanaman’ who has a good number of corporate clients, loss of confidence in his brand can prove costly indeed.

Both David Dontoh and Amandzeba Nat Brew both are said to have been arrested in 2014 and detained at the Nima Police Station for failing to refund money belonging to Kwame Wadada.

Africa Awake claims that in May 2010, it received a Public Private Partnership sponsorship to the tune of 150,000 from the government of the late President John Evans Atta Mills. The money was to be used for the establishment of the Atta Mills Legacy Project.
