AN ULTRA-MODERN information, communication and technology (ICT) laboratory has been commissioned at the Kakumdo M/A Basic School at Kakumdo in the Cape Coast Metropolis.
The facility became necessary through an appeal made by the Cape Coast Diocesan Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church, Most Rev Mathias Kobina Nketsiah, who hails from the area.
It was constructed with support from the Rosey International of Switzerland.
Commissioning it, Most Rev Nketsiah explained that the country’s development is hinged on the promotion of ICT education which has made it necessary for students to be equipped in ICT skills.
'We would soon introduce an e-learning centre as well as the establishment of a sports academy to enable people who are interested in sports to develop them,' he added
Most Rev Nketsiah charged the students to take their studies seriously, and, therefore, appealed to parents to invest in their children's education to enable them to become responsible citizens in future.
He urged the teachers to put in much effort to help the school become one of the best in the region.
Metropolitan Director of Education, Felix Ansah, thanked the clergy man for mobilising resources for the establishment and inauguration of the ICT facility.
Mr Ansah pointed out that for Ghana to reach an appreciable level of development and for improvement in the quality of life, there would be the need to develop scientists, technicians, technologists and engineers for its industrial growth.
He urged parents and traditional authorities to contribute towards the maintenance of the facility to ensure that the students benefit from it.
He appealed to the two MPs in the area to collaborate with the metropolitan assembly, NGOs and corporate bodies to establish more ICT laboratories in the area to enable more basic schools to easily access the facility.
