Atuabo Youth Threatens Demonstration Against Ghana Gas After Several Petitions

The District Chief Executive
Ellembelle District - Nkroful.
Dear Sir,
PETITION FROM ATUABO YOUTH
We the youth of Atuabo in the Ellembelle District wish to express our dissatisfaction about the treatment of Ghana Gas Company to our community.

Although we are most grateful for the establishment of the project in our area,we are presenting this petition through you the DCE for immediate actions to be taken.

Employment: We are much aware of the on-going recruitment of Ghana Gas both contract and permanent workers.

Sir, it may surprise you that there is nobody from the community who has been employed by Ghana Gas with the exception of the Assemblyman.

We have presented a petition to the company for those who are qualified for the various areas yet no responses were received. Even advertisements of job vacancies are not communicated to us even though there are notice boards in the community.

Sir, still on employment, we have qualified engineers and technicians with requisite expertise to work effectively at the processing plant in particular and Ghana Gas in general.

On the issue of drivers, this town (Atuabo) has over the years had qualified and competent drivers which can at least occupy the position as drivers of the company. Some of these drivers worked under Sinopec during the construction of the plant but were sacked during and after the project for no reasons. It was our prayer that such drivers would be given appointments when the company has started operations but Ghana Gas employed drivers from Esiama, Takoradi and Accra leaving our abled-drivers behind. Sir, we believe stronglyevery Ghanaian deserves equal opportunity in job acquisitions but what do we do to the people of the localities who are the first to suffer in case of accident?

We also want to prompt you that we have qualified graduates in this community whose contributions will go a long way enhance the successful operations of the company.

We, are therefore, by this letter appealing to you that percentage of employment quota be given to citizens of this community as part of the local content allocations.

CooperateSocial Responsibility package (CSR)

Mr. DCE, we wish to inform you that Ghana Gas since its existence consulted the schools, community members, health centers and has promised to provide amenities to such institutions and groups of people. As we speak now, none of such promises has been fulfilled.

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment

We are also by this petition bringing into your notice, the fact that the EIA and SIA done earlier on before the commencement of the project are not known to us, the affected community. We need to have a copy of such document to enable us know how safe the community is.

Sir, we are appealing to you, to use your good office to organize durbar in Atuabo where the CEO as well as the Human Resource team of Ghana Gas would be there to address such concerns.

Mr. DCE, if immediate action is not taken within the shortest possible time, we are calling the media to listen to our concerns. Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
………………………………..

i have some questions about this so call atuabo youth. where is the secretary who i learned have been writing these letters. Listen, the youth of nzema for that matter ghana want the good of the area. Masa, atuabo was a dead town. i remember in the 2000's it was difficult to get a car to travel to the nearby hospital at Eikwe. i was shocked what i saw in my recent visit to the area. The benefits to the community is marvelous- good roads, good drinking water, woman selling and making life. Thanks...
