Accra, April 4, GNA - Mr Kofi Genfi, a student of Ashesi University, has won the 2015 Young Debaters competition to represent Ghana at the 34th International Public Speaking Competition in the United Kingdom.

He was given other incentives such as money, gold medal of honour, certificate of participation, and books for his personal library.

The competition on the theme: 'To Ignore The Past Is To Remain A Child,' saw participants battling each other with current issues confronting the country, in the practice of democracy and other related topics.

Ms Eugenia Tachie-Menson, Country Director Young Educators Foundation, said The Young Debaters (TYD) competition is organised yearly by the Young Educators Foundation, a local non-governmental organisation (ngo), to promote literacy, by allowing students to develop critical thinking and communication skills.

It also gives Ghanaian students a chance to meet and form friendship with students from other countries.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Genfi thanked God for guiding him to successfully win the competition and also expressed gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity.

He urged his colleague students to seize such opportunities when they come, to help transform and build their confidence level.

He prayed that with hard work, Ghana could emerge winner at this year's competition.
