NDC scribe lavishes praise on man who sued the party

The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has applauded Linus Njonolah for taking the party to court and insisting that the right thing be done.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia (a.k.a. General Mosquito) said the action by the youth leader and President at the Akrokerri School of Education has helped the party richly.

Njonolah took the party to court, accusing the leadership of violating the constitution by keeping executives whose tenures had expired.

He asked the court to put an injunction on the upcoming regional and national executive election.

The party represented by Victor Adawudu sought the court's permission for an out of court settlement- a permission which was granted.

Lawyer for the plaintiff, Felix Datwomoh, told Joy News they have agreed that the guidelines drawn by these same executives who had overstayed their tenure would be put aside.

"If these guidelines are no more we don't think that being the crux of the matter that we brought to court we don't think there will be the need to keep on litigating over the same issue.

As part of the agreement, both sides agreed that committees would be constituted to oversee and supervise the conduct of the entire election process so that it will not be left in the hands of the national and regional executive committee.

"I think it is not just my client who won. It is victory for the entire NDC," he said

The party has since decided to set up an independent body to oversee its upcoming elections.

While many have in the past been advised against taking the party to court, and in some cases punished for doing so, the General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia rather praised Linus Njonolah for his initiative.

"Linus was right in declaring that, that section did not form part of the constitution of the party and so that clause has been expunged and we have taken consequential matters to ensure that nobody is disadvantaged just because of the existence of that clause.

"I want to congratulate Linus for insisting on the rule of law within the party. We don't consider Linus as having done anything wrong at all for which reason he ought to be punished.

"In fact he has acted in furtherance of the party and to ensure the party acted according to its constitution."
