Mampong Presec Cries for Help

AKUAPEM-Mampong Presbyterian Senior High School in the Eastern Region has over the weekend marked its 6 th  Speech and Prize Giving Day under the theme: 'Education and Technology, The Synergy For Future Development'.

The ceremony was attended by chiefs, politicians, parents, teachers and past students of the school at its premise on last Saturday.

The Guest Speaker, Professor Kofi Sraku Lartey, President of Presbyterian University College of Kwahu-Abetifi, tasked the students to use education to establish and reaffirm social values of the society and their lives.

'Teachers and parents should also ensure that all students shy away from social vices that have could have negative implications on their lives,' he said.

Prof Lartey also advised parents to warn their wards 'from indulging in the use of mobile phones which distract them from their studies' and added that the effective use of the Internet with other audio visuals could help students to acquire more knowledge and improve performance in a competitive environment.

The Headmaster of Mampong Presec, Rev Ebenezer Tetteh Akusaki, who addressed the gathering appealed to the general public and the Ministry of Education (MoE) for additional residential infrastructure and facilities to be made available to accommodate its growing students population.

He pointed out that the school recorded a 100 percent score in all previous WASSCE examinations conducted and 'we have other educational awards to our credit.'

'Even though we feel disappointed that only 12 classrooms and two bungalows have been provided by the government since the school was absorbed into the public system 23 years ago, the three major projects initiated last year give us hope that better things are in store for us,' he stated.

Rev Tetteh Akusaki commended the government for providing the school with 50 laptops with Internet connectivity and a well-resourced scientific laboratory with support from the school's Parents And Teachers Association (PTA).

He also called on the government and other concerned organisations in the society to come to the aid of the school by helping provide a power generating point to help tackle the problem of energy supply in the school.
