KNUST Senior High School board inaugurated

A thirteen-member board of governors of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Senior High School has been inaugurated in Kumasi.

The board has as its chairman,  Dr Devine Ahadzi, a lecturer at the KNUST, and was sworn in by a Kumasi Circuit Court  Judge, Mr Justice Emmanuel Lodoh.     

Addressing the members of the board, academic staff and students of the school, Mr Kofi Sarfo Kantanka, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said the concept of putting in place board of governors was based on the policy of community participation in education.

He said the activities of the school could not be divorced from the community whose interest the school sought to serve. He said he expected the board members to bring their experiences to bear on the management of the school.

Mr Kantanka stated that the board was mandated to ensure good administration of funds through financial and audit reports, as well as good discipline among the staff and students.

He said the academic excellence of any school depended, to a large extent, on good discipline and, therefore, called on the board members to help the school authorities to maintain a high level of discipline.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Joyce Owusu Ansah, commended the members of the management board for their efforts and contributions towards infrastructural development, which has contributed towards the academic performance of the students of the school.       

She assured the new board of governors of transparent administration and co-operation to ensure discipline among the students, as well as the academic staff.
