The Queen mother of Sunyani, Nana Yaa Nyamaa, has been honoured by Global Media Foundation, human rights and anti-corruption media advocacy organization for her excellent leadership exhibited as the Queen mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area.
For her prize, she received a citation under the GLOMEF Excellence Award – Traditional Authority category that she has used traditional authority to affect the lives of her people.
The Queen mother would also be inducted into the GLOMEF Hall of Fame after one year of receiving the award.
The Citation described Nana Yaa Nyamaa as a compassionate humanitarian whose life has been dedicated to the pursuit of justice, an advocate for children and women's rights as well as peace builder.
The short but impressive award ceremony held at the Sunyani Traditional Council was chaired by the Omanhene of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkriwiri, and attracted many other personalities such as queen mother of Dwenenim.
In his remarks, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkriwiri, was full of praise to Nana Yaa Nyamaa for her style of leadership which has brought peace and harmony among the sub-chiefs and people in the Sunyani Traditional Area.
According to him, ever since Nana Yaa Nyamaa was installed as the queen mother for over 40 years now, the hard work and efforts she has exhibited is appealing. He congratulated the Queen mother for winning the GLOMEF Excellence Awards- traditional Authority category 2013.
Nana Asor Nkriwiri hoped that the award would ginger the Nana Yaa Nyamaa to do more to make the traditional area more pleasing and attractive.
The enjoyable mood of the ceremony turned sad when Nana Yaa Nyamaa started weeping when she was given the chance to talk.
Nana Yaa Nyamaa was grateful to Global Media Foundation for the honour done her and promised to do more to promote the development of the poor in society.
Presenting the Award, the Chief Executive Officer of GLOMEF, Raphael Godlove Ahenu Jr said his outfit instituted the award scheme to honour personalities in the region who have distinguished themselves in political, traditional authority, academia, business and the media.
The CEO hinted that the award would be extended to Ashanti, Northern and Western regions next year in order to appreciate and recognize more individuals for their contributions to the development of their respective communities and the nation as a whole.
