Family Litigation: Kamel’s Family Drag Wife And Daughter To Court

Ten months after the burial of the former Volta Regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamel, some family members have allegedly intensified plans to deny the widow and the children of their rightful inheritance.

DAILY GUIDE gathered the situation had overburdened the widow, Hellen Kamel and her three daughters, Xandria Kamel, Portia Kamel and Pearl Kamel, who are still in school.

Some relations, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on the matter said, “Kamel will be turning in his grave.”

In a recent development, one Ernest Asare-Siaw has issued a caveat to stop the granting of Letters of Administration (LA) to the widow, Helen and Xandria Kamel, daughter.

The demand for the LA by the widow and the children of the former minister forms part of processes to the claim the ex-gratia of the former Minister and MPs from the state.

The caveator, Asare-Siaw claims to be the family head of Afunume Atta of Guaman in Buem.

However, DAILY GUIDE's checks indicated that all documentations on the funeral and burial arrangements, including the obituary of the deceased, indicated that he (Kamel) was a member of the Badomia clan of Guaman in Buem.

The caveat, which is quite questionable, also discredited the family head of Badomia clan, Abusuapanyin Obed K. Nyarko, who signed as witness and family head in support of the request by the widow and her children.

However, the obituary confirmed that Obed K. Nyarko is the family head of the Badomia Clan.

The caveator, Ernest Asare-Siaw, has been described as the stool father and not a family head.

Some family members told DAILY GUIDE that they had decided to take steps to address the situation.

According to them, the widow and the children have been maltreated by the family of the deceased.

They added that “it is all because Kamel did not have a son, and so his brothers and other family members want to take over his property and leave the wife and girls with nothing.”

Although the former late Kamel did not have a will, the country's laws bars family members from laying claim to his properties.

Sources told DAILY GUIDE that immediately after the funeral, a mill of the widow was confiscated by the family members, who alleged that their son, Henry Kamel bought it for her.

They alleged that Marshal Kamel, the younger brother of the Minster, was leading the crusade against the widow and the children.

They bemoaned attempts to confiscate the farm and other property of the former regional minister at Guaman, his hometown, including the house.

They also added that the crave for the property of the deceased had prevented the entire family from formally thanking Parliament and the Presidency for their kindness.

A call placed to Gustav Adu's phone was not returned.
