Residents of La have taken to the streets to protest the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach, appealing to the government to intervene and help restore the livelihoods of traders and workers affected by the exercise.

The demonstration, organised by the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front, was held under the slogan “Aaagbe Wɔ Demo” to express opposition to the demolition and highlight its impact on people whose livelihoods depend on activities at the beach.

Addressing the demonstrators, New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Titus Glover appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and facilitate the return of affected traders to the site.

He urged the President to protect the interests of the affected Ga-Dangme people and help ease the economic difficulties arising from the demolition.

“We, the youth of the Ga-Dangme people, are saying that enough is enough. So we want to register our plea with the President to intervene and get the traders back to the place,” he said.

The demolition was carried out by National Security operatives on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a request from Labadi Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Some traders and workers affected by the exercise say the removal of the structures has disrupted their businesses and deprived them of their main source of income.

They are calling on the government and relevant authorities to reconsider the situation and allow them to return to the beach to resume their economic activities.
