Citi FM’s Nana Boakye-Yiadom Is USD$1 Million Rich

In what would pass as a perfect birthday gift, Citi FM has bagged another international award.

The Station's Deputy Director of News Programming, Nana Boakye Yiadom, picked up the top prize at this year's Africa Story Challenge Award Ceremony held in far away Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, making him the first ever Journalist to win the top prize.

Mr Boakye Yiadom beat two other top journalists, Kenya's Alex Chamwada and South Africa's Diana Neille to the top prize at the Africa Media Leaders Forum, attended by the continent's media moguls and top journalists, including Citi FM's Features and Current Affairs Editor, Richard Dela Sky.

"The hard work we continue to do as a team of young men and women working together for a better Ghana, Africa and indeed the world from our small corner in Adabraka has paid off," elated Mr Boakye Yiadom told citifmonline.com just after picking up the top prize.

"It has been a very difficult journey to the top but I am sure the reward for all the sacrifices, including my nights away from my wife, Sylvia in the field, pursuing stories has definitely been worth it," he added.

Mr Boakye Yiadom would get to choose any international media house in any part of the world for an attachment as part of his prize package. The entire duration of his stay with the media House of his choice will be funded by the organisers of the Africa Story Challenge.

Earlier, Mr Boakye Yiadom told a fairly packed hall of journalists and media managers at the maiden Africa Story Challenge Award Ceremony that, "...The most important part of this whole exercise is that our story, The African Story, is being told by African journalists".

"I must say it is an honour to be here and to be part of this competition. I am grateful to God for bringing me this far. To my wife, Sylvia, for the understanding and support, and also to the management and staff of Citi fm" he added.

He went on, "I am humbled by this achievement, especially knowing that some of the best journalists on the continent made it to the top 20, especially Alex Chamwanda and Diana Neille".

Thursday's award was Mr Boakye Yiadom's first since joining Citi FM in 2008, rising from a sports and business reporter to his current job as the station's Deputy Director of News Programming.

The top prize comes as an addition to a string of silver wares previously won by Citi FM nationally and internationally since the station started operation in November 2004.
