'.so far as I am concerned, Dr Afari Gyan has cut a very poor figure of himselfthe much acclaimed competent election administrator both nationally and internationally has evaporated into thin air once his portfolio has come under the close scrutiny of the court,' said Justice Jones Dotse, one of the nine justices of the Supreme Court that presided over the election petition case.

Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has opined that the statement by Justice Dotse should not be taken lightly.

Mr Baako feels Justice Dotse's statement which is part of his ruling 'is a telling indictment'.

'Justice Dotse's portionshould not be underestimated. It is not a question of how the ruling went. To get a Supreme Court judge in such a historic case make that kind of statement about your competence; never underestimate that. It doesn't matter whether he was in the majority or minority.'

Reacting to the brouhaha surrounding whether the electoral laws in the country should be reformed or not, Kweku Baako was of the view that those against it will not do the country any good.

According to him, there were a lot of things that went wrong with the previous elections; hence the need for a reform.

'Calls for reforms in principle is not problematicReforms come through agitation, confrontation and agreement. We have to do critical analyses of the judgment in its various segments. In so doing, we can enhance our jurisprudence and laws. No matter how you feel about EC or Afari Gyan as a person, we should focus on the need to reform some of our electoral laws whether we like it or not

Out of anger, you can say that there is no need for reforms let's go into the next election with the same package but that is not the way forward. This is a law governing societyif we want to cure this mischief at the polling stations (in the next elections) clearly we will be perpetuating violence because we are going to be our own judges there,' Kweku Baako pontificated during panel discussions on PeaceFM's 'Kokrokoo' programme.
